wonky corners quilt

After making the little scrappy quilt, I was inspired to make another quilt with scraps. I decided to do some wonky corners, and I am in love!! This is definitely one of my favorites. I love how each triangle is a different size, and placed at a different angle. That makes the piecing process so much more fun. You don't have to worry about getting every one to look the same. It also allows you to use many more scraps.

I'm still working on this one, of course! I'm always starting something new between quilts. But, I did manage to get it quilted! I actually tried many different options for the quilting, but they just weren't right. Lots of seam ripping!

I ended up with straight line quilting, an all time love, and I'm so happy with it! It's clean and simple and really lets the focus be on the fabrics, which is my favorite part! Now, I just have to get this baby bound.

stitch

I am so excited to finally debut my new online store- Stitch! It's taken a lot of work to get this all ready, but it's totally worth it. If you don't already know, I really want to open a little store with my mom, but that is still a few years away.

So for now, I'll be selling my work here!!

Check it out if you're looking for the sweetest baby quilt, or a fun pouch with a beautiful gold exposed zipper! And more items will be coming soon. I just had to choose a point to officially open the site for y'all to view! Thank you for your support!

granny love: show it off

This past week I've been busy getting my website all ready for the world to see. Lots of balancing in awkward poses to get the shot, but it was fun seeing all my finished pieces. I realized that I never showed this quilt, all bound and beautiful on the blog, so here it is!

You can read all about my process with this quilt in this post.

wonky log cabin quilt

I'm so excited to finally share this beauty! It's one of my favorite pieces, but also was one of the hardest. I had in my head what I wanted it to look like. Effortless and easy. I describe it like when you try to style your hair so that it looks like you didn't, like you just woke up like that. I wanted this quilt to look like I just threw it together and it worked. Turns out it takes a lot of effort to make it look effortless! I won't say that it turned out exactly like I planned, but that's ok. I love it.

I did set some rules for myself in terms of color. I wanted to stick to turquoises and golds, with some soft creams. Along the way, some extras snuck in, like the pink and chartreuse. Those turned out to be great additions because they make the others sing.

So here's the wonky log cabin quilt from start to finish!

Also, the website is coming along and I'm hoping to make it live very soon!! This quilt, and others, will be for sale.

life lately

Hello weekend!! I'm super excited about this one, because tomorrow's my birthday! I'll be 23, and I think this is the first year where I've thought, "ok, let's not get any older." You know, before this you have all those great birthdays to look forward to, but now it's just eh, another year. So no, I'm not loving the whole getting older thing, but I can't make it stop, so I might as well enjoy it, right?

Not much has been planned because honestly I'd be perfectly happy staying in bed all day and binge watching Orange is the New Black. Such a wonderful early birthday present! I definitely have a love/hate relationship with how netflix releases the entire season at one time. And then they give you those 15 seconds in between each episode to decide if you're going to be productive today: that would be a no.

However, I was productive this week. I finished the wonky log cabin quilt that I started in February (right around when I forgot about blogging!) and I love the way it turned out. It gave me some struggles along the way, but don't they all. I want to do a full post for this sweet quilt, but here's a little sneak peek.

I'm working on getting a website up to sell my quilts. One day, the plan is to have a brick and mortar store, but for now, it's gotta be online. So stay on the lookout for that :)

Also, Bradley just had a birthday! I love how close ours are. Just when we've finished off his birthday cake, it's time for mine!

We stuffed our faces and bellies at our favorite Japanese steakhouse. I accidentally let it slip to the chef that it was his birthday. Luckilly for Bradley, no songs were sung and he wasn't embarrassed. Oh well, maybe I'll get him next year!

little scrappy quilt

Happy Thursday Lovies! First of all, I want to apologize for being so absent lately. If you saw my last post, you already know that my sweet dog, Solomon passed away recently. It has been so incredibly difficult for me. And the only way for me to stay sane is to throw myself into work. So, that makes for a really sweet baby quilt. This is the fastest quilt I've ever made, which is really surprising, because the whole thing is hand quilted. I know. I still can't believe I did it either.

I made this quilt in 18 days. And I think it's safe to say that this is my favorite quilt I've ever made. It has so much personality and I think it really shows a lot of me in it. This quilt began at our Savannah Modern Quilt Guild's "use up your scraps" Retreat. That's the best part- all of these are scraps! And I think in the end it looks like confetti, so that's pretty awesome.

Alright, get ready for one big scroll party! See the Little Scrappy Quilt from start to finish.

A few days into the hand quilting, my elbow was killing me. I honestly believe I had "quilter's elbow," you know, like tennis elbow! I'm telling you, quilters are hard core.

It needed a little POP!

All quilted! Each piece is quilted with a white pearl cotton, with about a 1/4 inch border. There are 4 scraps that have a radiant orchid border- gotta love that pantone color of the year!

Hand stitched binding, as always!

And it's done!

granny love

This quilt was started in July and I don't think there are any photos of it on here. It was a quilt that I started and was so excited for and then I got kind of bored with it. I was also having some mental creative blocks which are no fun. I couldn't figure out how to make it work! So in a box it went until about 3 weeks ago, when I found the blocks and was excited for it again.

This part is always the hardest for me. Getting a visually balanced quilt is not an easy task. It's kind of like a rubik's cube for me, but in reverse. I don't want too much of one color clumped together. You can see in the middle picture that there are 3 red centers on the bottom row- not good. Eventually things come together.

The choice of using linen for the background probably wasn't the best. Visually, I love it and that's why I chose it, but sewing linen is so tricky! It has a loose weave so there is a lot of room for stretching. Getting each square to be the same size almost drove me crazy. But now we're through the piecing part and I get to start quilting! I'm doing echo quilting inside and outside each block and inside and outside each center square.

At this point, I wasn't finished quilting it, but I decided to go ahead and bind the quilt because we were going to Virginia and I would be in a car for 6 hours. Gotta use that time wisely!

So, here it is, all bound but still needed 3 squares quilted. It was pretty funny quilting when it already had a binding! But hey, it works!

Update: See the finished quilt in this post!
